Drum Lords of the South

I’m here today to talk about a certain track. It was many years ago, & I was in the midst of putting some material together, that would later become “THE NINJA’S HAND BOOK”.  I used to spend all of my free time in the studio.  One afternoon, my good friend/musical confidant, showed up. With our priorities changing, there wasn’t a whole lot of musical engagement with old band mates.  I always prefer having a professional come in and clean up my percussive faux pas.  Ronnie heard the track maybe twice, as he had a knack of doing.  One of my favorite traits in a musician, the ability to fearlessly jump right into a groove & know exactly where to go. So he finishes his contribution, and we partied, I’m sure. I went on to finish up the song later.

This morning I came across a mix without the vocals, and was blown away.  Fuck, there are so many nuances that are completely masked by the lyrics. This Man’s surgical emphasis on the hi hat & ride highlight every peak & valley.  Then there’s the beast that punishes that crash like it owe him money! A highly trained specialist who never fails to deliver.

So here’s to you Mr. Maddskai Ronnie Kornejo!
